Our story

Amara and Idris, standing close together in the evening light Portrait

They met in the spring of 2021 at a dinner neither of them wanted to attend. Olivia had been seated next to the only other guest who thought the host’s new sourdough was overrated, and by the cheese course they had agreed on a great many other things, including that the host should never find out.

David proposed on an unremarkable Tuesday in the kitchen of their apartment on West 11th Street, because he had decided a grand gesture would give the game away. Olivia said yes before he had finished the sentence, then asked him to start again so she could hear the whole thing.

Six years, one dog, and a frankly heroic number of dinner parties later, they would like you to join them for the best one yet.

Where to

Stay

Your

Questions

May I bring a guest?

If your invitation was addressed to you and a guest, absolutely. If not, we have kept the room intimate and hope you will forgive us.

Are children welcome?

We adore them, but this will be an evening for grown-ups. The exception is the flower girl, who has been practising for months.

Will there be parking?

Very little, this being Manhattan. Taxis and the subway are the wiser choice; the 6 train to 23rd Street lands you a short walk from the chapel.

What time should I arrive?

The doors open at half past three. The ceremony begins promptly at four, and the chapel doors close behind the bride.

Is there a gift registry?

Your presence is truly all we ask. Should you feel inclined, a contribution towards our honeymoon in Lisbon would be received with great delight.

What to wear

Attire

Midnight formal. Long dresses, dark suits, kilts warmly encouraged. Wear whatever in your wardrobe belongs to a garden at night, and spare a thought for gravel paths before you choose your heels.

These are the tones we have chosen, if you would like to lean into them.

With love

Amara & Idris
