Our storyHow it began

PortraitAmara and Idris, standing close together in the evening light

They met in the queue for a ferry that had already left. Amara had the timetable, Idris had the confidence, and neither of them had a plan for the next four hours in a café in Tarifa. Most of the good things since have started the same way.

A long-distance year followed, conducted largely by voice note, then a flat in Lisbon with a balcony that held two chairs as long as nobody moved. Idris learned to cook properly. Amara learned to let him.

He asked on an ordinary Tuesday, in the kitchen, with the risotto at a critical stage. She said yes and told him to keep stirring. Their first summer together was spent in Seville, so that is where they would like to spend this evening, with you.

QuestionsGood to know

Will it be hot?

Very likely. Late June in Seville often reaches the mid-thirties by late afternoon, which is why the ceremony is in a shaded patio and dinner waits for the sun to drop. There will be a fan on every chair. Use it without irony.

Can we bring the children?

We love your children, and this evening is for adults. Your invitation names everyone we are expecting; if anything looks wrong, tell us.

How do we get to the reception?

Coaches leave Plaza de Santa Cruz at half past seven and run back into the city from one o’clock until the lanterns go out. Please leave the car behind; the fino is generous.

Is anything happening on Sunday?

A long, unhurried lunch by the river at half past one for anyone still upright. Mention it in your note when you reply, so we can count chairs.

What about gifts?

Your company in Seville in June is more than enough. For those who insist, a honeymoon fund will appear here nearer the time.

Dress codeWhat to wear

Summer formal

Linen suits and light tailoring; long or midi dresses in soft, evening colours. The patio floors are old stone, so block heels or flats will serve you better than stilettos. White is spoken for, and a light layer will be welcome after dark.
